‘Hokum’ Heads to Digital Platforms After Theatrical Run

Adam Scott’s haunted house horror film “Hokum” will be available to buy or rent on digital platforms starting Tuesday, June 2 at 12 a.m. Eastern Time, following its theatrical release on May 1.

Written and directed by Damian McCarthy, known for his previous horror films “Oddity” and “Caveat,” the film stars Scott as reclusive novelist Ohm Bauman, who retreats to a remote Irish inn to scatter his late parents’ ashes.

According to the official synopsis, staff at the inn share tales of an ancient witch said to haunt the honeymoon suite, and the story takes hold of Ohm’s mind, drawing him into disturbing visions, a shocking disappearance, and a confrontation with the darkest corners of his past.

The supporting cast includes Peter Coonan, David Wilmot, Florence Ordesh, Austin Amelio, Michael Patric, Will O’Connell, and Brendan Conroy.

The film premiered at the South by Southwest Film Festival in Austin, Texas, in March, where it received positive reviews from critics. Dublin-based Tailored Films served as one of the producers, with support from Fís Éireann/Screen Ireland.

Viewers will be able to purchase or rent the film digitally through platforms including Amazon Prime, Apple TV, and Fandango At Home.

Pricing varies by platform, though on Amazon Prime the film costs $24.99 to buy or $19.99 to rent, with a 48-hour viewing window once a rental is started. A DVD release date has not yet been announced.

“Hokum” is not currently available on any subscription streaming service, but it is expected to eventually land on Hulu, since the film was distributed in North America by Neon, which has an output deal with Hulu for its theatrical releases.

'Hokum' Heads to Digital Platforms After Theatrical RunBased on the release patterns of other recent Neon films, “Hokum” could arrive on Hulu sometime between early August and early October 2026, though no official date has been confirmed.

In the meantime, those eager to watch sooner can purchase or rent the film through digital platforms now.
