Cops are investigating a gruesome murder after officers discovered the remains of a Scarborough woman stuffed in a suitcase early Friday. On Friday morning, the Toronto Police Homicide unit announced its detectives were taking charge of the investigation.
Cops have not officially confirmed the details, announcing only that it was a homicide investigation. Police sources told the Toronto Sun that officers found the suitcase on the south side of Hwy. 401 along the eastbound lanes between Port Union Rd. and Whites Rd. near the Scarborough-Pickering border.
Officers responded to an unknown trouble call in the 43 Division after neighbours called 911 to report hearing people fighting. When officers arrived, the female involved was missing. According to sources, the woman is seen on a security camera entering the premises but not exiting. Cops then checked the home for evidence and found blood, and the carpet was cut. This suggested that the missing woman had been murdered.
Elsewhere, sources said a dumpster was removed on a flatbed from the Pickering Casino Resort Hotel, likely to the Centre for Forensic Sciences.Toronto Police were also searching for evidence at a waste management facility in Durham Region on Friday.
It’s believed the various crime scenes are connected.Sources said a man was taken into custody and charged with aggravated assault related to the missing female. It’s expected that the charge will be upgraded to murder now that police are investigating the disappearance as a homicide.
